I recently stumbled across the tragic case of Deputy Sheriff Bryant Vick, and I can't help but think about the immense bravery he and his partner displayed that day. It's easy to overlook the daily dangers officers faced during the Prohibition era, but encountering someone armed and unpredictable must have been terrifying. The fact that they were just doing a routine inspection and ended up in such a deadly confrontation really highlights how unpredictable their work was. It’s a reminder that enforcing the law back then was way more than just cracking down on illegal liquor. It was about standing up to some very dangerous individuals. My heart goes out to Deputy Vick’s family and friends. Losing someone so young and devoted to the community is an unimaginable loss. I hope they found some peace knowing he’s remembered for his courage and commitment.
