I've been reading a lot about Constable Lee Roy Selman's tragic death, and my thoughts keep going back to the incredible risk and bravery law enforcement officers take on every day. Selman was only 36, trying to make his community safer by capturing a truly dangerous fugitive. It must have been such a shock to his family and colleagues, knowing he was out there doing his duty, only to be met with such violence. I can’t imagine the fear in the community at that time, knowing a fugitive capable of killing not just one but multiple officers was on the loose. It's comforting to know that Constable Selman’s dedication and courage have not been forgotten, and the Texarkana Arkansas Police Department continues to honor his memory. My heart goes out to his family, then and now. How do communities generally cope with such prolonged manhunt situations? Would love to hear what you all think.
I can't stop thinking about how dangerous it must have been for officers like Constable Selman during that time. Approaching a known fugitive, especially one with such a violent history, requires a level of bravery and dedication that not many people possess. It's incredibly sad that his attempt to uphold the law ended so tragically. My thoughts go out to his family and the community that lost such a courageous individual. Does anyone know if there's a memorial or anything in Ashdown dedicated to him? It's so important to remember and honor those who gave their lives in service, even decades later.
