I've been thinking a lot about Renata Lynn May Simmons and her terrible fate during this senseless tragedy. While I've read numerous articles about Ronald Gene Simmons' actions, I find myself constantly circling back to the lives that were stolen, especially hers. Renata was so young, only 21, and had an entire future ahead with her husband and their little boy. The level of betrayal she experienced is unfathomable—invited to a gathering that's meant for family and warmth, only to be met with such violence and horror. I can't even begin to imagine the pain her parents and siblings might have felt upon hearing the news. The holidays will forever carry a different meaning for them. It’s important to remember not just the perpetrator’s heinous acts, but the vibrant lives that were taken. Renata deserved so much more, and it's crucial that she, and all the victims, are remembered as the individuals they were, with lives full of potential and dreams yet to be realized. If anyone has any additional insights or remembrances about Renata as a person, I'd be very interested to hear them. Her story deserves to be told not just as a number among the many victims but as a young woman who was cherished by those who knew her.
