March 29th, 2017, is another day that serves as a grim reminder of how deeply gun violence has infiltrated our communities, claiming young lives like that of Darmayah M. Smith. I find myself thinking a lot about the systemic issues that plague neighborhoods like West Englewood. It pains me to see these bright futures extinguished before they even have a chance to shine. Darmayah's tragic passing is not just another number in the statistics. Each of these young victims had hopes and dreams, and they leave behind devastated families and friends who will never quite be the same. It's crucial that we remember the person behind the headlines—a teenager who deserved so much more. Let's keep pushing for real change and support the families and communities affected by these senseless acts. It's going to take everyone being committed to making a difference, but the lives of these young people like Darmayah deserve nothing less.

Hey everyone, I've been thinking a lot about the young lives lost to violence here in Chicago, especially with what happened to Darmayah M. Smith back in 2017. It's just so difficult to grasp how these neighborhoods, rich with history and community, have become so overshadowed by fear and violence. I can't help but feel for Darmayah's family and friends. They lost someone who could've had a bright future ahead of him. What really gets to me is how systemic issues like poverty and lack of opportunities play such a huge role in these tragedies. The West Englewood neighborhood, like many others, is just crying out for support and resources to help lift these young folks out of a seemingly endless cycle. Why can't more be done to provide safe spaces, better education, and meaningful activities for these kids? I know it's a complex issue, but it breaks my heart to see young lives like Darmayah's lost. I've been following this ongoing struggle with gun violence, and I'm wondering if anyone has seen successful initiatives in their community that we might learn from? Really hoping for change, for Darmayah and so many others. Stay safe.
