I just came across the news about Yener Hudiel Ramirez-Miranda's tragic death and felt compelled to post here. As someone who lives not too far from the area, I often saw Ramirez-Miranda selling his iconic corn and shaved ice. He was always such a warm presence, especially around the school where so many kids admired him. It breaks my heart to think that someone so dedicated to supporting his family and spreading joy in the neighborhood was taken away in such a senseless act of violence.
I’ve been reflecting a lot on the impact this has had on our community, particularly for street vendors who work incredibly hard yet face increasing dangers. How do we even begin to address the root causes of such violence? The fact that someone who merely wants to provide for his family can end up in harm's way is deeply troubling. It's good to see the community rallying around his loved ones with the GoFundMe, but it just makes you wonder when enough is enough. This shouldn't be happening.
Sending all my love to Yener's family. Let's hope this spurs more action and awareness around the safety and rights of street vendors in Long Beach and beyond.
I've been following this case and it just breaks my heart to see how gang violence can shatter the lives of innocent people trying to make an honest living. Yener Hudiel Ramirez-Miranda was well-known and loved in his community, and it's beyond tragic that his life was taken so senselessly. As someone who has lived in the area for years, I've always admired the warmth and dedication of street vendors like him. They bring so much vibrancy to our neighborhoods.
It's comforting to see the community rally behind his family through the GoFundMe campaign, but of course, no amount of money can replace a father and husband. I hope the arrest of the suspects brings some semblance of justice and perhaps some peace to his family. It's crucial that we continue to support local initiatives aimed at reducing gang violence and improving community safety. No one should have to fear for their life while doing something as simple as working to support their loved ones. Sending my thoughts to his family, friends, and all who knew him.
I’ve been following the incredibly sad case of Yener Hudiel Ramirez-Miranda, and my heart goes out to his family and everyone who knew him. I can't stop thinking about the community's response—and it’s been nothing short of amazing. The fact that the GoFundMe for his family raised over $50,000 is a testament to how much Yener meant to everyone in that neighborhood. It’s so hard to comprehend how a person so beloved for simply bringing joy through something as simple as selling food could be taken so suddenly.
Thank you to everyone who contributed or reached out to offer support. It reminds us that, despite all the negativity surrounding gang violence, there’s a lot of good and compassion out there. What's equally important now is how the community and local officials continue to address safety for street vendors and work on preventing such tragedies in the future. It’s crucial to keep talking about these issues to make sure everyone in Long Beach, and beyond, can live and work without fear. Sending love and strength to Yener’s family and the Wrigley community. ?
