I can't shake the feeling of tragedy surrounding Dexter Perkins' case. What sticks in my mind is the reportedly simple argument over something as mundane as a bar tab and pizza that spiraled so horrifically out of control. It's difficult to comprehend how quickly a minor dispute can turn fatal. My heart goes out to Dexter's daughters, Brynn and Blair. Losing a parent is unimaginable, especially under such devastating circumstances. I hope the community comes together to support them and help them navigate the road ahead. The online fundraiser seems like a great way to show solidarity with Dexter’s family, but I wish there was more we could do to support these young girls directly during this profoundly difficult time. The fact that the situation escalated to gun violence is deeply concerning. What could possibly justify carrying a handgun and feeling the need to use it in a public place over such a trivial matter? The prevalence of firearms in everyday disputes is frightening. This isn't the first time we've heard about a situation like this, but it endlessly shocks me. I’m interested to see how the court proceedings will unfold in January and hope they bring some semblance of justice for Dexter and peace for his family.
