I’ve always been intrigued by the theory that Richard Damasse Riquier could have joined a cult. I've done some reading about religious movements during the 70s that were recruiting heavily around that time, both in North America and internationally. It's entirely plausible that Richard got swept up in one of these groups. If you think about it, Montreal in the early 70s would have been a prime location for such movements to operate, given its dynamic social scene and the flow of young people seeking new experiences and ideologies.
If Richard did indeed join a cult and potentially traveled to the U.S. or even India, it could explain why he was never found. Some of these groups require complete disconnection from former lives, which might correlate with his sudden disappearance and lack of communication. It's a challenging aspect to investigate, especially when so many cults operated under the radar back then, but it could hold the key to understanding what happened to him.
Has anyone else come across similar cases or know more about religious group activities in Montreal during the 70s? Any insights or thoughts on this angle would be fascinating—it's one of the few leads where we might still have a chance to find some kind of trace.
