Anyone familiar with Six Mile Station or have family stories handed down about the area? I’ve been trying to get a better understanding of what life was like there during the late 1800s. Reading about Deputy Sheriff Adolph Cuny’s tragic death at that location has made me curious about its history. It must have been such a rough, yet vital crossing point along the Cheyenne-Deadwood Stage Trail. Deputy Cuny seems to have been a pillar in his community, and it’s so sad to think of his family losing such a key figure. The fact that he was an interpreter for figures like Chief Red Cloud and Crazy Horse really speaks to the vital role he played. How did the community survive and cope after his passing, especially his wife Josephine and their children? It must have been extremely challenging for them. If anyone has more info on how the events impacted the family or the surrounding area, feel free to share.
