I’m really puzzled by why California’s San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Department is handling a case that originated in New York. Has anyone else seen something similar in other cases? Maybe Mary had some connections or family out there, but it's odd that it hasn't been disclosed. You'd think there’d be some mention if she’d been living or working in California sometime before her disappearance. Does anyone here know if there was some sort of jurisdictional issue or policy that could explain this? Did San Joaquin have some larger role in cold cases back then that I’m unaware of? Would love to hear thoughts or similar experiences from anyone who dives deep into these jurisdiction puzzles!
