Hey everyone,
I've been thinking a lot about the John Evans case and the broader issues in Philadelphia during 2008. One thing that caught my attention was how the neighborhoods with fewer resources seemed to be hit the hardest by violent crime, like the one where John was killed. It's so frustrating to see the cycle of violence in areas that are already struggling with socioeconomic challenges.
I can't imagine what John's family and friends have been going through, especially knowing that the environment around them might have contributed to this tragedy. It's like these communities were in this constant battle against odds stacked against them, and people like John paid the ultimate price.
I wonder if there were any community groups active during that time that tried to address these issues at a local level. We often hear about law enforcement and city policies, but grassroots efforts can sometimes make a significant difference. Does anyone know if there were initiatives in Wynnefield or similar neighborhoods back then trying to tackle these problems? It would be great to see something positive come out of such overwhelming sadness.
Hoping for some insights from those familiar with Philly's history or community movements.
