Does anyone else find it puzzling that Halpern, someone with such a strong academic background and survival skills, could vanish without a trace? I mean, he was a graduate student at the University of Chicago and had a summer gig at an observatory, not to mention he was said to be talented in areas like astronomy and chess. This isn't your average lost hiker situation. The unconfirmed sightings of him across different states are also quite baffling. It's like he just stepped off the face of the earth after that snowstorm hit. Does anyone else have more information on why the leads about him working with the Civilian Conservation Corps or the Lewis Brothers Circus were never nailed down? I’d love to hear what theories you all have or if there’s been any recent developments.
I recently came across the case of Halpern, who vanished while hiking near Taylor Peak in 1933, and I couldn't help but get stuck on those reported sightings of him afterward. The one in Phoenix later that year really piqued my interest. Phoenix isn't exactly close to the Rockies, so if it was him, how did he get there so quickly after the storm hit? And why was he supposedly on the move by the next year with the Civilian Conservation Corps, and then the Lewis Brothers Circus by 1935? Was there a possibility he wanted to start anew, or could these sightings be chalked up to mistaken identity? I know authorities aren’t actively looking into it anymore, but given his background in academics, you'd think someone would have recognized him and come forward. It’s all so intriguing and puzzling. Anyone else have thoughts on those sightings?
Has anyone else looked into the theory that Halpern might have used his mathematical and astronomy skills to get lost on purpose? I mean, if he suddenly decided he wanted to disappear, he had the smarts to plan it out. The sightings all over the country are interesting, especially considering how the Civilian Conservation Corps was all about rebuilding lives during the Great Depression. Maybe he found a new start there? Just speculating, but what do you all think about the possibility of him leaving his old life behind?
