Has anyone else read about John Clinton Bankston? Something that really stands out to me is his selflessness during the chaotic flood. From what I've gathered, in the middle of such intense panic and danger, John put himself in harm's way to help a friend with a broken leg get to safety. It's astonishing how someone so young showed such courage. I can’t help but wonder if that bravery might have cost him his own life. It's stories like these that remind us of the incredible strength some people possess, even in the face of life-threatening situations. If there were any updates or memorials for him over the years in Dallas or Comfort, Texas, I'd love to hear more about them.

It's still hard to grasp that John Bankston’s body was never found after that tragic day in July 1987. What strikes me most about his story is the level of bravery he showed in those chaotic moments. Like, he was just 17 and yet managed to help his friend with a broken leg and others, even when things were completely out of control. I've heard from people who were there that he didn't hesitate to jump into action when things went south. It's haunting that such a courageous act didn’t have a happy ending. The fact that he remains the only one whose remains weren’t found also leaves me wondering—did the area not get thoroughly searched? Or maybe the river’s course changed over time, which is not unusual with flash floods. It's one mystery that keeps coming back to me, and I can only imagine what his family has been through all these years without any closure. I hope someday they find the answers they’re looking for.
