Hey everyone, I found something interesting while looking into Hein's case that might shed some light on his disappearance. Has anyone else noticed the timing of his annual visits? Hein seemed pretty consistent with heading back to Colorado every Christmas. It makes me wonder if something significant might have happened during his last trip home in December 1982. Did anyone check if anything unusual happened in his life around that time, like new influences or conflicts? Also, leaving so quickly in early '83 with just a garbage bag for his belongings feels like he was in a rush or planning to move on without any ties. Maybe someone or something spooked him? Just throwing out thoughts—interested to hear more ideas!

Has anyone looked into whether Hein might have joined a commune or some sort of off-the-grid community after leaving Indio? Given his anti-establishment views, it seems like a possibility he might have been drawn to a lifestyle like that. There were definitely communes around California at that time. Since he got rid of his ID, it's conceivable that he wanted to start fresh and could've fully assimilated into one of these communities, living under the radar. I wonder if any searches were done with those kinds of groups in mind, or if anyone from back then recalls someone like him showing up. Just a thought given his known beliefs and behaviors. Also, traveling from town to town and working odd jobs seems to align with that kind of environment.
