Hey everyone, I'm feeling really heavy-hearted thinking about Adalina Sue Perez, or Addy as her friends knew her. I've been thinking a lot about the impact this has on her school community and how her classmates must be holding up right now. Shelbyville High School sounds like it's really pulling together to support one another through this gut-wrenching time. Having counselors and support staff available is crucial. During my own time in high school, one of my classmates passed away unexpectedly, and the support network truly made a difference. It's tough to digest how a night meant for hanging out with friends could end in such tragedy. I hope the students find some comfort in each other and the memories they shared with Addy. It's truly unsettling to see someone's bright future taken away in an instant. She seemed like a remarkable young woman with so much compassion, given her dream to become a nurse. For those who are part of the Shelbyville community or have insights into how students are coping, I'd love to hear how everyone is rallying around Addy's family and friends. These connections and conversations will hopefully help everyone process together. My thoughts are with the entire community and especially with Adalina’s family.
