I'm really struggling to wrap my head around the entirety of this case, but one thing that's been sticking with me is the role of stress and mental state in such tragic events. When I read that Elizabeth L. McKenna retrieved the gun from a safe upstairs, it makes me wonder about the state of mind someone must be in to make that decision. Was there a buildup of fear or a feeling of being trapped that led to such a drastic action? Nobody can truly understand what goes on behind closed doors, especially when there's mention of a history of abuse. My heart goes out to their child who, at such a young age, has already faced a trauma that most of us can't even imagine. I can only hope that the child receives the support and counseling they need to navigate this new reality.
