I keep thinking about how small towns like Leland are supposed to feel safe and tight-knit, and then you hear about something like this happening. It just shakes your sense of what a community is supposed to be. Kaslyn Johnson was so young, just starting her life, and to have it cut short in such a senseless way is incredibly disturbing. I read somewhere that she was so excited for homecoming, like so many others in town, and it breaks my heart that this celebration turned so tragic. What's especially tough to swallow is how authorities said it stemmed from some kind of dispute. It just makes you wonder why that dispute had to escalate to something so horrific. It's hard not to feel anger that this situation wasn't diffused before it reached this point. My thoughts go out to Kaslyn's family and friends, and to everyone else affected by this tragedy. They deserve answers and peace. I'm really glad to see the community coming together with vigils and memorials. It shows the strength and resilience of the community in the face of such pain. Hopefully, justice will follow and bring some sense of closure to those mourning and grappling with this loss.
