I've been thinking a lot about the incredible life Stephen Straus lived and how his story highlights the vibrant community spirit that's been so deeply affected by the tragedy in Highland Park. Stephen's dedication to commuting from Highland Park to his downtown office at 88 is genuinely inspirational. It speaks volumes about his love for his work and his zest for life, even at an age when many might consider slowing down.
His commitment to staying active in both his professional and personal life is something to admire. The community must feel a huge loss not just because of his death, but because of the void left by someone so actively engaged and contributing to the world around him. It's especially poignant to think how much he cherished cultural pursuits like visiting the Art Institute and attending symphonies. Losing someone who added so much to the community's cultural fabric hurts deeply.
I know his family and community are going through an unimaginably tough time. Engaging in passionate pursuits and fostering connections with family and community is a beautiful legacy he leaves behind. This loss is very hard, and my thoughts are continually with his family and the other victims as they navigate such a devastating chapter.
