I was digging into the case of Richard Roy Yerex, the missing pilot from '87, and something jumped out to me. Has anyone else noticed the mention of the weather balloon during his last radio contact? It's been bugging me. There’s so much mystery around it. Why was it even there? And was it confirmed by anyone else as being in the area that day? I mean, it seems like a random detail, but I can't help but wonder if it could've played a role in his disappearance. Maybe it was a distraction or even a false lead? I'm curious if there’s more info on typical flight obstacles in that region around that time period, or any theories on how that could have impacted his flight. Anyone come across anything regarding unusual weather patterns or activities that might have been happening simultaneously? Just trying to piece together anything that might shed light on this.
I was reading about Richard Roy Yerex's disappearance, and I find the whole weather balloon mention really intriguing. Has anyone looked into the possibility that he might have been disoriented by the balloon or if it somehow malfunctioned? Weather balloons can sometimes give off radar or visual anomalies that could confuse pilots, especially over water where the horizon is less defined. With Yerex being such an experienced pilot, it's curious that his last communication was about that and then nothing. If anyone has any insight into how weather balloons have impacted flights historically, it would be great to dig into that angle. It's puzzling how someone with his experience and a seasoned military background could vanish without a trace.
