Does anyone have more information about the legal proceedings around Isaac Young Heller after the murder of his family? It's shocking to think that he was initially found not guilty by reason of insanity back in 1830. What changed by 1836 that led to his execution? I can't help but wonder about the kind of evidence or mindset shift that occurred in those few years. It’s chilling to think how close he came to escaping justice long enough to harm his own family. My heart goes out to the Heller family and everyone affected—I can't imagine how horrifying it must have been to deal with such loss and betrayal. Any insights from those knowledgeable about early 19th-century legal practices would be appreciated!
