Has anyone looked into the role that mental health treatment (or lack thereof) played in George Fitzsimmons' life before the tragic events of November 18, 1973? It's so disturbing to think that his untreated mental illness could escalate to such a horrific point. From what I understand, he'd been dealing with severe issues for years, including the tragic incident involving his parents. This case makes me wonder about the mental health resources that were available—or weren't—back then and how different things might have turned out if he had received the help he needed. My heart goes out to the Nichols family and the entire Roulette community, who had to endure such a terrible loss. It's a chilling reminder that mental health needs more attention and support to prevent senseless violence. Would love to hear any thoughts or insights others might have on mental health care during that era.
Has anyone else delved into the police reports from the Nichols case? I came across some articles from 1973 that mention Euphresia's compassion and kindness towards George despite his troubled past. It's so tragic to think about how she and DeAlton might have been trying to help, even when things started to escalate. I've been wondering if there were any close friends or neighbors who witnessed George’s behavior in the days leading up to that awful night. Sometimes I think about what, if anything, could have been done differently or if there were warning signs that went unnoticed. It's a sobering reminder of the importance of mental health awareness and support for both individuals and families suffering in silence. Euphresia and DeAlton deserved so much more than what happened, and my heart goes out to their surviving friends and family.
