I came across something intriguing in Alfredo Olivares Jr.'s case that I felt worth discussing here. It's about the decision to exhume his body to search for a second projectile. This isn't something you hear about often. I can't imagine what the family's been through with this additional step in the investigation. The exhumation must have reopened so much pain for them, but if it leads to finding more evidence, maybe it can help in the long run. The fact that Peter Cardona was arrested is a step forward, but it seems like the missteps at the Tarrant County ME's office could have really stalled things. I'm wondering if there could be other cases out there affected by the same kind of errors. How often does this kind of thing happen, where mistakes in an autopsy report can change the direction of an investigation? I hope this leads to a thorough review so they can prevent something similar from occurring again and from more families going through additional heartache.
