Does anyone else find it odd that Myers, an experienced climber, chose to leave his partners and go ahead alone? This isn't typical behavior for someone who's so knowledgeable about the risks of Denali. Some climbers have a reputation for being overconfident, but from what I've read about Myers, he wasn't one to take unnecessary risks. It's puzzling why he would separate from his group, especially getting higher on the mountain where conditions can turn nasty quickly.
Also, I've been wondering about his decision to pick up skis at the 19,200-foot camp. Skiing down from near the summit is incredibly dangerous, even for seasoned climbers, due to the steep angles and hidden crevasses. Was this a spontaneous decision, or was it part of his plan all along? Getting insight into these details might help us understand what happened that day.
For those of you who've climbed Denali or similar peaks, does it seem conceivable he might have opted to ski down the ridge where he was last seen?
