I can’t stop thinking about the ripple effect this tragedy has had on the entire Morristown community. H.J. Roberts was so much more than just a victim—he was a young man full of potential and beloved by those who knew him. I read somewhere that he was at the altercation simply because he was trying to de-escalate the situation. It just breaks my heart to imagine someone stepping up to be a peacemaker only for things to go terribly wrong. His mom, Susan, must be living every parent's worst nightmare. Her bravery in speaking out and calling for change despite this immense loss is truly inspiring. We need more voices like hers rallying against careless acts of gun violence. It's crucial we think about how we handle conflicts, especially around firearms, to save others from facing this unbearable sorrow. Staying hopeful that the investigation leads to justice for H.J. and some sense of closure for his family.
