I’ve been thinking a lot about the cold cases in Detroit, and Brian Kidd's case has really been on my mind. It’s deeply unsettling to think about how a promising young life was cut short in 2010, and yet we still have so few answers. I can’t imagine the pain his family must feel every day knowing that they’re still waiting for justice.
One thing I keep coming back to is whether there might be someone out there with critical information who hasn’t spoken up. Fear of retaliation and a lack of trust in the justice system can definitely be barriers. I wonder if there are any community organizations or safe spaces where people can come forward without fear? It feels like building trust could be such a vital step in solving these kinds of cases.
The work that the Cold Case Unit is doing is hopeful, but there's definitely more to be done. Perhaps more public awareness campaigns could keep these stories in the light, reminding people that these victims and their families shouldn’t be forgotten. If anyone has seen innovative approaches in other cities that have worked, it would be great to share those ideas and maybe apply them here.
Thinking of Brian's family and hoping for a breakthrough. ?
