Hey everyone, I've been reading up on the case of Dwane Smith, the 35-year-old who was tragically killed back in 2011 on Montrose Street, and something's been bothering me. I can’t imagine the pain his family must still be going through with no answers after all these years. While we talk a lot about the need for more resources and support for law enforcement, I wonder about another angle—the role the community can play in bringing justice to Dwane and others like him. It seems like witness cooperation is always one of the biggest hurdles in these cases. Understandably, people might be scared to come forward, but does anyone here have insight into initiatives or programs that have successfully encouraged community members in Detroit to provide helpful information to the police, even when they’re wary? I really believe that fostering trust between the community and law enforcement is key to making progress, especially in a city with so many cold cases. If anyone knows any efforts that have made a difference in this regard, could you share? Sending all my support to Dwane’s loved ones. They deserve closure, and every little bit can help. Thanks.
