I’ve been following the case of the person who went overboard from the F/V "Yukon" near Rugged Island in Resurrection Bay, and I can't stop thinking about the safety measures on these kinds of vessels. Does anyone know what kind of precautions commercial fishing boats like "Yukon" typically have in place to prevent overboard incidents or to ensure a quick rescue if someone does go over? Are there safety drills or equipment that's mandatory on these boats? It seems like in the unpredictable Alaskan waters, the protocol would have to be really tight, but accidents still happen. Would love to hear from anyone with maritime experience!
Anyone have any thoughts on the conditions at Resurrection Bay around the time the victim went overboard from the F/V "Yukon"? I was reading up on the area, and it sounds like the waters can get pretty rough, especially depending on the weather. Did anyone check if there were any alerts or advisories for mariners that day? I'm just curious, because anything like strong currents, high winds, or poor visibility could've played a huge role in what happened. Would love to hear from anyone familiar with the area or who might have insights into how these factors might've influenced the situation.
