I was thinking about the impact Carl Smith's case must have had on his community. It's hard enough dealing with the loss of someone you care about, but knowing that there might not be justice served must make it even harder for his family and friends. I can't imagine the frustration they must feel with so many cases going unresolved. Detroit seemed to be overwhelmed back then, and with so many victims like Carl, it's like each one was a ripple in a huge wave that never seemed to end. I hope those who knew Carl find some comfort in the support of their community and that efforts continue to bring justice to all affected by such senseless violence. It's a stark reminder of the systemic changes needed to prevent more families from experiencing this pain.
