Hi all, I've been following the discussion on Cortez Jackson's tragic case and I can't help but think about the role community resources (or the lack thereof) played in this and similar situations. It seems like so many of these violent incidents could potentially be prevented with better support systems in place. It makes me wonder what kind of community programs could have made a difference back then. Would increased funding for local youth centers or job training programs have helped reduce the violence that plagued Detroit in 2013? The loss of someone like Jackson is a devastating reminder of the changes that need to be made to improve these communities.
