Hey everyone,
I’ve been following the case of Bryant Hicks for a while now, and something that really sticks with me is the lack of community cooperation. Obviously, it’s frustrating when no witnesses are coming forward, but I can’t help but wonder if fear is playing a huge role here. The west side of Detroit has had a rough time with violence, and it’s possible that people might be afraid of retaliation if they speak up.
On one hand, I get that—nobody wants to put their own family at risk. But on the other hand, without witnesses, it’s hard for the police to make any headway in solving these cases, including Bryant’s. I really hope that with more community outreach and efforts from organizations, there might be a safe way for people to share what they know without fear. It’s so important for Bryant’s family and others in similar situations to find closure.
Anyone have thoughts on how we can encourage safer avenues for witnesses to come forward? It would be great to hear some ideas or experiences that have worked in other communities.
Thinking of Bryant’s loved ones who are still waiting for justice.
