Has anyone else been following the Robert Kenneth Alexander Jr. case? I've been thinking about the fact that he didn't file a flight plan before his disappearance. I know experienced pilots sometimes fly without one under visual flight rules, especially if it's a familiar route, but considering the conditions over Hood Canal, it strikes me as a bit risky. Also, it seems like it would have been helpful for the search efforts if he'd had a flight plan. I'm curious if anyone has insight into why a pilot as seasoned as Alexander might have opted not to file one. Could it have been a spontaneous decision, or was it a common practice for him under those circumstances?
