Has anyone else been thinking about the tragic turn of events that led to the deaths of Bob Durwood Moore, also known affectionately as "Tex," and Fred Edward Simmons? I can't stop thinking about how Bob was just trying to help someone out by giving them a ride. It's a reminder of how quickly situations can escalate. I recently read that Dennis Weaver, the hitchhiker who was with them earlier in the trip, got out in Atlanta shortly before the tragedy occurred. I can only imagine how he must feel knowing he narrowly escaped becoming another victim. It's heartbreaking to think about the moment at the intersection of Georgia Highway 20 and I-85 when everything changed. The randomness and brutality of it all is just overwhelming. I'm left wondering, what if Bob and Fred had decided to take a different route or hadn't stopped at that rest area? It's haunting to think about the potential what-ifs. My heart goes out to their families and friends who have had to live with the aftermath of this senseless crime.
