I've been researching the case of Morris Highsmith and Alfred Boatright from 1981, and something that stands out to me is how random and senseless the choice of the target was. It breaks my heart to think that they were just going about their day in the handyman store—likely a place where they knew all the regulars and felt at ease. For them to be targeted so suddenly and without warning by someone they'd probably never met just highlights the randomness of the crime. It's hard not to feel for their families and the community who probably spent years wondering why this happened in their small area. It makes you realize how vulnerable and unpredictable life can be.
