The trial's outcome brings some relief for Elizabeth Hernandez's family, but it doesn't erase the horror of what happened on that fateful day in 2014. I can't stop thinking about how fearless Elizabeth must have been, facing such violence and defending herself to the very end. Those defensive wounds tell a story of courage and strength that makes this whole situation even more tragic. It's incredibly upsetting to hear that Canty showed no remorse, even after taking such an innocent and precious life. I'm also thinking about Aaron Holmes, the survivor who saw his friend murdered and sustained life-threatening injuries. It's amazing he survived and managed to get help, though it must have been terrifying and traumatic. I hope both Elizabeth's family and Aaron can find some measure of peace now that the trial is over, and hold on to the memory of Elizabeth as her kind, vibrant self before this terrible act of violence. Sending love and strength to all affected. The community needs to rally together to support each other and find ways to prevent such horrors from ever happening again.
