I’ve been researching the tragic events at the Ship Ashore motel and something that really strikes me is the role of Gordon Knott as manager. It's unimaginable thinking about the responsibility he felt for his employees and guests in such a chaos-filled moment. From what I've gathered, Gordon was known for his dedication and kindness—being a pillar in the small Smith River community. It's terrifying that a place meant for rest and vacation turned into a nightmare. I genuinely feel for the Knott family, losing both Gordon and Shirley. It must have been devastating for their loved ones and friends. Just wondering, does anyone know if the Ship Ashore staff received any support or counseling after the incident? I can't imagine how one moves past something like this without any professional help. Sending thoughts to all the victims' families during what must still be a difficult time.
