Was anyone else absolutely floored by how close Gerald Perry’s tragedy was to his granddaughter? I can’t even begin to imagine the horror she’s going through, knowing this happened right in her own home. And to think he had just been holding his great-granddaughter moments before — it’s a chilling reminder of how quick and fragile life can be. From what I’ve read about Lemont Smith, it’s infuriating to hear how he had no consideration for those around him, handling a loaded weapon with such carelessness. The fact that he had a record and still had access to a gun just compounds the frustration. I’m really hoping that, aside from seeking justice for Gerald’s sake, more awareness is raised about gun safety and the kind of tragedies that can ensue when it’s disregarded. Sending all my thoughts to Rebecca Perry and the entire family as they navigate through this unimaginable loss. It's a painful reminder to cherish our loved ones every day.
