I can't stop thinking about the community impact of Jesus Silva Hernandez's tragic death. While the police have noted that he wasn't involved in gangs, the specter of gang violence continues to loom large over Salinas. It's awful to think how this pervasive fear affects the day-to-day lives of so many innocent residents. Kids can't even feel safe using their phones outside without worrying about becoming targets. It's times like these when the community needs to band together and support each other, pushing for change and demanding justice—not just for Jesus, but for the whole community's peace of mind. I hope the Salinas PD gets the leads they need to catch the suspect(s) involved soon. My heart goes out to Jesus's family and friends for their unimaginable loss.
