Does anyone have more background on Santiago Santos? It's so difficult to find personal stories about the individuals involved in the Attica uprising. It’s important we remember them not just as numbers, but as people with lives and families. I read that Santos was one of the 39 who lost their lives when law enforcement retook the prison. I can't even imagine what his family went through when they got the news. It's really upsetting to think about the circumstances leading to such a tragedy and how those events highlighted the urgent need for changes in the prison system. Being able to learn about who Santos was could provide a more personal insight into why these changes are so necessary. If anyone has any resources or knows more about his life, please share.

I've been thinking a lot about the legal journey that followed the Attica uprising and how it affected families like Santiago Santos'. It's overwhelming to imagine what it must have been like for his loved ones, not only losing Santiago in such a brutal way but then having to fight for decades in the courts just to see some semblance of justice. The $8 million settlement in 2000 might have felt like a win on paper, but can financial compensation ever truly address the loss and trauma they faced? This tragic event should remind us all of the urgent need for systemic change and accountability. While the financial settlement was something, we must continue to advocate for reform that ensures such a tragedy doesn't happen again. Thoughts and support go to all of Santiago's family and others affected.
