Anthonette Christine Cayedito was born on December 25, 1976, in Gallup, New Mexico. Of Navajo and Italian descent, she was the eldest of three sisters. Known for her maturity and nurturing nature, Anthonette often took on responsibilities beyond her years, caring for her younger siblings and excelling academically. Her favorite color was purple, and she had a fondness for the music of Michael Jackson and Ronnie Milsap. Anthonette's life was rooted in her community and family, making her sudden disappearance all the more jarring.
On the evening of April 5, 1986, Anthonette's mother, Penny, went out with friends, leaving her daughters in the care of a babysitter. Penny returned home around midnight, dismissed the babysitter, and spent some time with her children before they all went to bed around 3 a.m. The following morning, Penny discovered that Anthonette was missing. Despite an extensive search involving local authorities and volunteers, no trace of Anthonette was found. There were no signs of forced entry or struggle, and the case quickly grew cold.
A year after Anthonette's disappearance, a chilling phone call was received by the Gallup Police Department. A young girl, identifying herself as Anthonette, claimed she was in Albuquerque. Before more information could be gathered, an angry male voice was heard, followed by the girl's screams, and the call was abruptly disconnected. The call was too brief to be traced, but Penny was convinced it was her daughter's voice. This call reignited hope but ultimately led to no breakthroughs.
Over the years, several individuals reported sightings of girls matching Anthonette's description. Notably, in Carson City, Nevada, a waitress claimed to have seen a teenage girl with a disheveled couple. The girl repeatedly dropped her utensils and squeezed the waitress's hand each time she picked them up. After the group left, a note was found under the girl's plate reading, "Help me. Call the police." Despite these accounts, none have been conclusively linked to Anthonette....Read More
