On the evening of July 13, 1992, 18-year-old Dedra Michelle Saxon-Bracken returned to her sister's home on Lee Settlement Road in Folsom, Louisiana, after finishing her shift at the Winn-Dixie grocery store in Covington. She arrived around 11:00 p.m., catching a ride from her boyfriend's sister. Upon entering the house, she passed by her sister's boyfriend, who was asleep on the sofa, and proceeded to her bedroom. This seemingly routine night would mark the last confirmed sighting of Dedra.
The following morning, at approximately 6:00 a.m. on July 14, Dedra's sister's boyfriend noticed that she was not in her room. There were no signs of a struggle or forced entry, but Dedra was gone. Notably, she had left behind her wallet and her most recent paycheck, items one would typically take if planning to leave voluntarily. Her sudden and unexplained absence prompted her mother to file a missing person's report with the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff's Office.
Dedra's life at the time was marked by several personal challenges. She had dropped out of Hammond High School before graduating and was working at a job she reportedly disliked. Additionally, she was the mother of two young daughters. Her eldest was about 18 months old, and she had recently signed away her parental rights to her newborn. Family members noted that Dedra appeared to be struggling with depression and uncertainty about her future, factors that may have influenced her state of mind leading up to her disappearance.
In the days following her disappearance, there were unconfirmed reports of Dedra being seen in the local area. However, these sightings could not be substantiated, and no concrete leads emerged. The lack of evidence left investigators with few avenues to pursue. Dedra's mother speculated that her daughter might have left on her own accord but feared that she could have encountered foul play afterward. The absence of any communication from Dedra since that night has only deepened the mystery surrounding her case....Read More
