On December 2, 2019, the quiet town of Ansonia, Connecticut, was rocked by a harrowing discovery. Christine Holloway, a 43-year-old mother and daycare worker, was found bludgeoned to death in her Myrtle Avenue home. Her 14-month-old daughter, Vanessa Morales, was missing. The police, responding to a welfare check after Holloway failed to show up for work, found no sign of forced entry but noted that several of Vanessa's belongings, including her car seat and diaper bag, were also gone. An initial Silver Alert quickly escalated to an Amber Alert, but despite exhaustive searches and public appeals, Vanessa has never been found .
In the days following the discovery, attention turned to Jose Morales, Vanessa's father and Holloway's boyfriend. Morales was arrested on December 3, 2019, for illegal possession of stun guns. By February 7, 2020, he was charged with Holloway's murder and tampering with evidence. Authorities alleged that Morales beat Holloway to death, left her body in the bathtub, and spent the following day cleaning the crime scene. Surveillance footage placed him near a clothing donation bin in Derby, Connecticut, where bloodstained items belonging to Holloway were later found .
During his trial, Morales testified that he was under the influence of PCP at the time of Holloway's death. He claimed that two unknown men entered the home, one attacking Holloway with a crowbar while the other abducted Vanessa. Morales stated that he was too incapacitated to intervene and that the assailants threatened to harm Vanessa if he contacted the police. However, prosecutors highlighted inconsistencies in his statements and noted that Morales failed to report Vanessa's disappearance immediately, instead attempting to establish an alibi with a friend .
The trial of Jose Morales commenced in April 2025, presided over by Judge Shari Murphy. Despite defense efforts to exclude references to Vanessa's disappearance, the judge ruled that the circumstances surrounding her vanishing were integral to the case. Prosecutors presented evidence including a 911 call from Morales' phone, in which a slurred male voice repeatedly said "Myrtle Avenue" without providing further details. In the background, a female voice could be heard asking, "Stop, hang up. Who are you calling?" The call was disconnected shortly thereafter ....Read More
