On November 20, 1987, a seemingly ordinary day in Santa Ana, California, took a tragic turn for the Zaharias family. Three-year-old Christopher Louis Zaharias and his 15-month-old sister, Lisa Mae, were abducted by their non-custodial mother, Susan Elizabeth Zaharias. The abduction followed a heated argument between Susan and her ex-husband, Louis Zaharias. After Louis left for work, Susan seized the opportunity to flee with the children, setting off a decades-long search that continues to this day.
Susan's departure was not a spontaneous act. Investigations revealed that she received assistance from family members, including her aunt and grandmother, who helped her plan and execute the escape. Reports indicate that Susan and the children initially traveled to Lake Elsinore, California, before moving on to Pennsylvania, where they stayed with relatives. Subsequent sightings placed them in Detroit, Michigan, between December 1987 and 1988. Despite these leads, law enforcement was unable to locate them.
In response to the abduction, a felony warrant for crimes against persons was issued for Susan on February 17, 1988. An additional warrant for custodial interference was also filed. Susan, born on December 5, 1959, is described as a Caucasian female with blonde hair and brown eyes. She has a small scar on her upper lip and keloid scarring on her abdomen. At the time of the abduction, she was reportedly struggling with substance abuse issues, including cocaine and crystal methamphetamine.
Louis Zaharias has dedicated his life to finding his children. Over the years, he has collaborated with law enforcement, private investigators, and advocacy groups to keep the case in the public eye. In 2017, the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children, in partnership with Clear Channel Outdoor Americas, launched a billboard campaign across Southern California featuring age-progressed images of Christopher and Lisa. Despite these efforts, the siblings remain missing. ...Read More
