On August 29, 1996, 42-year-old Brian Jack Deese from Plano, Texas, vanished while vacationing in North Lake Tahoe, California. That afternoon, he rented a boat at 1:15 p.m. to enjoy the lake. Later that evening, at approximately 7:56 p.m., the boat was found unoccupied in waters about 1,000 feet deep. Despite extensive searches by the U.S. Coast Guard and local authorities, no trace of Deese was found.
Deese was known to have bipolar disorder and had a history of suicide attempts. These factors led investigators to consider the possibility of suicide. However, without concrete evidence, the case remains unresolved.
In the nearly three decades since his disappearance, no new information has surfaced. The case remains open, with Deese listed as an endangered missing person. Authorities continue to seek any leads that might shed light on what happened that day.
