In the heart of South Dakota's Cheyenne River Sioux Reservation, 12-year-old Sharon Baldeagle was embarking on a new chapter of her life. As the eldest of four siblings, she had just begun her first year at the Brainerd Indian School in Hot Springs. Described as a Native American girl with black hair and brown eyes, Sharon stood 5'3" tall and weighed approximately 110 pounds. Sandi managed to escape and sought help, but by the time authorities arrived, Long and Sharon had vanished.
A week later, Long was apprehended in Albuquerque, New Mexico. He claimed ignorance of Sharon's whereabouts, stating that he had put her on a truck bound for Dallas, Texas. Investigators found no evidence to support his story, and Sharon has not been seen since. Despite extensive searches and possible sightings in Wisconsin and Colorado, her fate remains unknown.
Royal Russell Long's criminal history extended beyond Sharon's case. He was a suspect in several other disappearances, including those of Carlene Brown and Deborah Meyer in Wyoming, and Cinda Pallett and Charlotte Kinsey in Oklahoma. Despite being charged in some cases, lack of evidence led to dismissals. Long died of a heart attack in prison in 1993, taking with him the secrets of his crimes. ...Read More
