Born on August 4, 1972, in Santa Barbara, California, Amy Joy Wroe was the youngest of four siblings. Shortly after her birth, her family relocated to Wyoming, where she was raised in the towns of Jackson and Douglas. Amy developed a passion for running early on, which she pursued fervently throughout her life. She attended the University of Wyoming, where she excelled as a distance runner, setting records and serving as the captain of the cross-country and track teams.
