On May 3, 1992, a twin-engine Cessna 340, tail number N69469, departed from Yakutat, Alaska, en route to Anchorage. Aboard were five men: Scott Roth, Jeffrey Roth, Kent Roth, Timothy Thornton, and Brian Barber. The flight was expected to be uneventful, but it would become one of Alaska's enduring aviation mysteries. The last communication with the Federal Aviation Administration indicated the aircraft was at 12,000 feet, flying on instruments toward Anchorage. After that, the plane vanished without a trace.
