Introduction
On July 20, 2024, the Alaskan aviation community was shaken by the disappearance of a 1948 Beechcraft Bonanza aircraft en route from Juneau to Yakutat. Aboard were three individuals: Samuel "Sam" Wright, an experienced pilot from Haines; and the Yakutat-based couple, pilot Hans William Munich and Tanya Hutchins. The aircraft's sudden disappearance over the rugged Fairweather Mountain Range has left a void in the hearts of many and raised numerous questions about the events of that day.
The Fateful Flight
The journey began on a Saturday afternoon when Sam Wright departed Juneau, accompanied by Hans Munich and Tanya Hutchins, who were returning home to Yakutat. The Beechcraft Bonanza, a single-propeller aircraft known for its distinctive design, was expected to cover the approximately 275-mile distance without incident.
