A Young Mother’s Sudden Disappearance

On February 16, 2020, 21-year-old Jessica Diane Vanzant Dietzel was last seen in Albany, Georgia. A resident of Leesburg and mother to a young daughter, Jessica's sudden disappearance left her family and community searching for answers. She was reported missing by her mother, Kristina Johnson, on March 1, 2020, after weeks of unsuccessful attempts to contact her. Jessica was known to use others' phones to communicate, as she did not have her own at the time. On February 18, she used a friend's phone to send a Facebook Messenger message to another friend, expressing fear and stating, "I know I'm in too deep."

Distinctive Features and Personal Details

Jessica was described as 5'7" tall, weighing approximately 150 pounds, with blonde hair and green eyes. She had several tattoos, including the name "Elena" and a butterfly on her upper left chest, "Kenny Man" on her upper right chest, writing on her ribcage, an arrow on her upper back, a heart between her left thumb and index finger, stars on her thigh, and the phrase "Perfectly Flawed" on her thigh. Her ears, lip, and nose were pierced. At the time of her disappearance, she was wearing a light blue Nike shirt, leggings, black Nike slides, and carrying a mustard-colored bag.

Investigation and Person of Interest

Following her disappearance, law enforcement focused on Gary Potter, a friend whose phone Jessica used to send her last known message. Police searched Potter's residence and seized his truck, finding hair that could potentially belong to Jessica, though this has not been confirmed. Potter claimed not to know Jessica and refused to answer further questions without legal representation. He remains the only person of interest in the case who has not been cleared by authorities.

Discovery of Personal Belongings

Six months after Jessica's disappearance, a notebook belonging to her was found in a parking lot in Oglethorpe, Georgia. The notebook appeared to have been recently dropped, as it showed no signs of weathering or sun damage. This discovery raised questions about her possible movements or the involvement of others after her disappearance. ...Read More
