In the early hours of September 8, 2010, the city of El Monte was shaken by the devastating news of the death of 47-year-old Hector Urias. Family members, alarmed by his unusual absence, found him fatally shot in the office of his business, Hector Urias Auto Repair, located on the 3500 block of Santa Anita Avenue. Their concern had grown when Urias failed to return home the previous night and missed a scheduled community basketball game at 9 p.m.
