Stacey Lynn Balas was born on July 12, 1971, in Ohio. Her early life took a dramatic turn in 1988 when she was involved in a severe automobile accident. The crash left her with significant head injuries, resulting in cognitive impairments that affected her daily life. Despite these challenges, Stacey was determined to lead an independent life. She secured employment at a Subway restaurant in Fairview Park, Ohio, demonstrating her commitment to self-sufficiency and normalcy .
On the night of November 26, 1996, Stacey was last seen around 1:00 a.m. She had been closing the Subway restaurant with her manager, Larry Wade. Stacey never returned to her residence in North Ridgeville, Ohio, and failed to show up for her scheduled shift later that day. Her blue 1995 Nissan Pathfinder was discovered abandoned in the parking lot of the Cleveland Motel, just a few blocks from the Subway restaurant. Her purse was found inside the vehicle, but there was no sign of Stacey .
In the days following her disappearance, Stacey's credit card was used three times: twice in Brooklyn, Ohio, and once in Cleveland. The charges were minimal, totaling less than $35. Surveillance footage failed to identify the individual using the card. Larry Wade, the last person known to have seen Stacey, became a person of interest. He claimed they had left the restaurant separately that night. However, three months later, Wade was convicted of raping another woman in Ohio, raising further suspicions about his involvement in Stacey's case .
Nearly nine years after Stacey's disappearance, in November 2005, Larry Wade confessed to her murder. He admitted to strangling her in the Subway's kitchen after she rejected his sexual advances and disposing of her body in a trash bin. In May 2006, Wade pleaded guilty to charges of aggravated murder, aggravated robbery, and kidnapping. He was sentenced to 20 years to life in prison ....Read More
