Apolino Contreras: A Brief Overview
Apolino Contreras, a 51-year-old Hispanic male, disappeared on March 9, 1998, from a care facility in Los Angeles, California. At the time of his disappearance, he was 5 feet 6 inches tall, weighed approximately 212 pounds, had black hair, and brown eyes. Contreras was mentally disabled, possessing the cognitive abilities of a two-year-old child. He communicated exclusively in Spanish and was known by the nickname "Tortillas."
Circumstances Leading to His Disappearance
On August 2, 1997, Contreras was found wandering the streets of Camarillo, California. He could recall his name and mentioned having five brothers but was unable to provide further identifying information. Due to his mental condition and lack of identification, authorities placed him in the Fountain Gardens nursing home, located in the 2200 block of South Santa Ana Boulevard in southeast Los Angeles, while efforts were made to ascertain his identity.
